Trump arrives in Singapore ahead of historic North Korea summit

North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un and his attaches arrived in Singapore Sunday, all aboard a Chinese jetliner.

A United States official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Monday's meeting appeared aimed at making 11th-hour progress ahead of the summit since Sung Kim's earlier talks did little to narrow a gap between the two sides on the definition of denuclearisation or win agreement on tangible commitments from Pyongyang toward dismantling its nuclear arsenal.

Trump is due to arrive later on Sunday.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says Monday's preparatory talks were moving quite rapidly and "and we anticipate that they will come to their logical conclusion even more quickly than we anticipated". Traffic was held up in the steamy midday sun and scores of bystanders were penned in by police when Trump went to meet Lee.

Despite an enormous level of excitement amongst the general population both on the ground in Singapore and across the world at the prospect for nuclear disarmament and an end to the war between North and South Korea, expectations have been tempered by those involved.

Meanwhile, officials from North Korea and the US met for working-level talks in Singapore at 1000 local time, a diplomatic source familiar with the issue confirmed to NK News on condition of anonymity.

The two are due to meet on Tuesday on the resort island of Sentosa for their high-stakes summit, the first-ever talks between a USA and North Korean leader and the culmination of a head-spinning diplomatic dance.

The jet landed at the airport Sunday afternoon amid huge security precautions on the city-state island.

Xi, Modi Hold Bilateral Talks in China, Agree to Improve Ties
He was in the Chinese city of Wuhan on April 27 and 28 to attend an informal summit with President Xi Jinping . The sanctions have impacted Russia's defence cooperation with a number of countries including India.

According to Sky News, citing North Korean Agency, the head of the DPRK in the trip accompanied by his sister Kim yo-Jong, the Minister of foreign Affairs ri Yong Ho, and Minister of defense of North Korea But Kwang Chul.

"The only caution I would give the president is not be photographed too much with a smiling Kim Jong Un, because they use that in North Korea for dramatic propaganda purposes", Richardson said.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as the summit and the recent positive developments on the Korean peninsula.

The two met at the official residence of the Singaporean President around midday local time, before holding a lunch meeting at which several other high-level US officials - including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton - were present.

The North invaded the South in 1950 and the ensuing war pitted US-led United Nations troops backing Seoul against Pyongyang's forces which were aided by China. We appreciate the working together with North Korea.

The meeting was Trump's only scheduled public event today.

"We have a very interesting meeting in particular tomorrow, and I think things can work out very nicely", he said.
