Steam China will give Chinese gamers their own platforn

Steam China will provide Chinese gamers and developers with a new way to access Steam's selection of games and entertainment. For those of you who still remember Myspace, the new friends list will also let you designate some friends as "favorites", so get ready to compete for that coveted status. New features include a modernized chat experience, a more flexible friend list, group chats built for gaming, and more. Voice chat was rewritten using WebRTC which means that voice chat is encrypted now, that traffic is sent through Steam servers, and that it uses Opus encoding now. Soon, the AOL-esque chat of yore will be gone, replaced by the slick, fancy Discord chat of the present.

The new Steam Chat offers some great features that come as standard with other services. Your friends are now grouped together based on what game they're playing, whether or not they're currently in a game with each other, and their presence in one of your group chats.

The new chat features are now in open beta. Voice chat has also been rebuilt from the ground up, with Valve saying it now sounds a lot cleaner than it did before. This keeps your IP address private, which masks your physical location and also prevents network attacks.

In first, Afghan Taliban announce cease-fire for Eid holiday
He added that eight Taliban attackers were killed and more than a dozen others were wounded during the gun battle. It is unclear when the ceasefire will begin, as Eid begins when the moon is first sighted.

In many ways, the new Steam Chat resembles the popular voice-chat service Discord, so gamers already using that service will likely be familiar with the functionality already.

Within a group chat you have the option to add additional text channels, voice channels, member permissions. Whether that is enough to convince users to skip third-party chat clients to go back to Steam remains to be seen.
