Ghana's football association dissolved after bribery claims

The GFA said it would cooperate with any investigation.

Embattled former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi says he did no wrong in the Anas Expose but reveals he was deceived by a group of scammers.

The FA has been caught up in a mess as the video - produced by renowned Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye Private Investigations outfit - exposed corruption and match-fixing activities of top officials and referees.

The scandal has indicted 66 Ghanaian referees as well as 14 FA officials in taking bribes, with the FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi finding himself in the midst of the allegations.

"I wish to apologise to my family, work colleagues, friends, associates and the people of Ghana for the disappointment my indiscretion has caused them".

Nyantakyi, a CAF vice president and member of the FIFA Council, told undercover reporters pretending to be wealthy businessmen interested in sponsoring the Ghana Premier League that he could set up a separate company to act as the agent in the supposed deal and charge between 20-25 percent from the GFA.

A press release from FIFA, yesterday, announced Nyantakyi's ban from all football-related activities at both national and global levels, leaving him with no option than to resign.

Government on Thursday indicated its resolve to dissolve GFA in a bid to sanitise football administration.

Minister for Youth and Sports Isaac Asiamah has disclosed that government has dissolved Ghana Football Association (GFA), following the premiering of Anas exposé to unravel rots in Ghana football.

Provisional measures will be put in place to run the sport in Ghana until a new body is formed.

Federation Internationale de Football Association has not yet commented on whether any action will be taken over the government's plan to dissolve the GFA.
