Porsche Taycan is the production version of the Mission E

Porsche Taycan is the production version of the Mission E

The name was confirmed today, at the official opening of the "70 Years Porsche Sportscar" special exhibition at the Porsche Museum in the Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart, Germany.

The Taycan will compete against Tesla's Model S sedan. Loathe it? Let us know what you think of the Taycan name in the comments section below.

Taycan, roughly translated as "lively young horse", according to Porsche, references the imagery at the heart of the the brand's crest, which features a leaping horse. "It's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom". "Our new electric sports auto is strong and dependable; it's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom", Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, explains. On Friday, though, the worls at least learned a name of the auto that could be the first to give Tesla a run for its money. But it will run on electricity.

Taycan's power train will production more than 600 horsepower that will allow the electric vehicle to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 3.5 seconds and to 124 mph on the track in less than 12 seconds, the company said. Automakers are spending billions as they face a period of unprecedented change - stricter environmental regulations are forcing them to offer more battery-powered vehicles even as combustion-engine cars still generate the vast majority of profits.

The Macron-Trump bromance has a dark side, just like sausage-making
Kudlow also said he relayed Trump's message to a senior member of the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office. Still, Macron is undeterred and affirms his friendship with the famously temperamental USA president.

Porsche's got a history with names that are a bit, shall we say, different. The expected range is more than 500 km on the somewhat generous NEDC test cycle.

The Taycan will have a great advantage with its 800-volt, 350-kw charging system. That's double what it had originally planned. Porsche is investing more than $1 billion to produce the Taycan, which will enter production by the end of 2019. First up will be new infrastructure to support the Taycan: a dedicated assembly area, electric motor manufacturing, and a new body shop, all in Stuttgart.

The all-wheel-drive Taycan use two electric motors - one on each axle - drawing their power from lithium ion batteries mounted in the floor.
