Attracting some of the most high profile names in the industry, models, designers and TV personalities gathered at the CFDA Fashion Awards on Monday to show off their style credentials as they arrived at the Brooklyn Museum in NY. It also featured a belt thought up by designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, which featured a variant the song title,"Every N--er Is a Star".

The event honoured the best of American design at a time when the fashion industry is struggling with controversies, a retail slump, as well as magazine closures and layoffs.

Actresses-turned-designers Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen won the Accessory Designer of the Year award for their under-the-radar brand of luxe.

The CFDA awards are fashion's answer to the Oscars, and a slew of celebrities were on hand at Monday's ceremony at the Brooklyn Museum. Ralph Lauren was awarded the Members Salute, Narciso Rodriguez received the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award and Diane von Furstenberg took home the Swarovski Award for Positive Change.
