Video shows police dragging woman from vehicle

This is the shocking moment a screaming 65-year-old woman was dragged out of her vehicle by a police officer during a traffic stop.

It happened last Friday when officers in Alpharetta pulled over 65-year-old Rose Campbell for failing to maintain her lane.

Video of an elderly Georgia woman getting hauled out of her vehicle after refusing to sign a traffic ticket is sparking outrage.

In the video, the officer is heard asking Campbell to step out of the auto, but she refused to open her door, saying she would not come out until a supervisor arrived.

The Alpharetta Police Department posted a video on Facebook Thursday including a statement from Public Safety Chief John Robison and footage from the squad vehicle showing the incident, which took place May 4 during a traffic stop at Ga.

Police say the woman became so upset that she hit an officer with the door. She said she wasn't sure if she'd pursue legal action.

Legg then approached the scene, walking up behind the two other officers and observing briefly before shouting and cursing at Campbell, who had just appeared to agree to comply with the officers.

A grandmother was pulled over in Georgia and then forcefully removed from her vehicle amid shouts and insults all because of a traffic turn. "There are aspects of the video...that simply do not represent who we are as an organization".

Maybe I should not have used profanity, but its immediate effectiveness is not questionable and I do believe I acted reasonably under the circumstances.

As she slowly stood up from her auto, she asked the cop, "Who are you talking to?" As such, he arrested her for disorderly conduct as she held on to her seatbelt when she was being forced out of the auto.

One of the officers can be heard telling Campbell not to slam her body against the cop vehicle and saying 'please, I need you to sit down now'.

The officer's resignation letter was posted on the department's Facebook page with a note from Police Chief John Robison stating that, regardless of the resignation, the investigation into the traffic stop arrest would continue.

"I just panicked. I just, it was like my heart exploded", motorist Rose Campbell, 65, later told local WSB TV.

The department also said it is typical for every officer in the vicinity of a call to respond when back up is requested.

The official did not name Legg in the post, but said the officer "interjected himself into the situation using language and tactics that were inappropriate, even inflammatory".

That's when several officers arrived, including Legg. "I didn't expect that in America".

"I didn't expect that especially in Alpharetta", she added. Numerous Alpharetta police officers arrived, including me. He ordered an internal affairs investigation on the incident and assured the community there would be a "decisive" response. Am I in a movie? I remind you that I did not make the traffic stop, did not begin the use of force, did respond with emergency equipment, did properly analyze the situation, did render the vehicle safe, did get the suspects attention and out of the auto, did effectively get her detached from the seatbelt, and did get her handcuffed with limited force.

Campbell, who is diabetic, was also concerned about her health during the incident.

Legg had been suspended, pending the investigation, but said he did not think he would be treated fairly. I couldn't believe it.
