Three injured in knife attack on South Africa mosque: Security company

According to a report issued by Reaction Unit South Africa, the attackers, who were wearing half balaclavas, fled in a white Hyundai light motor vehicle with no registration plates.

Shaykh Isgaak Taliep, secretary general of the Muslim Judicial Council, called the attack on the mosque a "senseless crime" against three innocent individuals. "The other two are in critical condition", said Prem Balram added.

'One of the three has just died on his way to hospital.

Japanese drug maker Takeda to buy Ireland's Shire in $62 billion deal
Takeda said it will launch a "review of the functions undertaken" at Shire's current headquarters in Dublin within the first year. Takeda, meanwhile, has like many Japanese companies been expanding overseas to compensate for slowing growth at home.

The secretary general of Jamiatul Ulama South Africa, Moulana Ebrahim Bham, told Radio Islam that they condemned the attack which "fosters nothing but tension, mistrust and insecurity within communities".

The suspects then attacked three people before setting some of the mosque's rooms alight. The fire department is also on scene.

South Africa has not been a target for militant attacks of the kind that occur in some other African countries. "My neighbours on my right were Hindu, on my left were Christians and opposite me were Muslims", Shubnum Khan, a South African author and artist who writes frequently about Indian Muslim communities in her country, wrote in an op-ed for the Huffington Post past year.

"There have been theft and robbery incidents at mosques before, but not like this when nothing appears to have been taken".

The attack came shortly ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which begins around May 16.
