Nintendo Names New CEO After Success of Switch

Now, as the next president of Nintendo Co.

It's a big generational shift.

Tatsumi Kimishima, 68, has been with the company for nearly 30 years in total, working his way from The Pokémon Company's Chief Financial Officer in 2000, to President of Nintendo of America in 2002. Some feel that trait may be especially valuable as Nintendo looks to expand even further into Western markets with the success of the Switch and their mobile titles. The Switch can be played anywhere, for any amount of time, making it great for those who want to fit a little bit of gaming into their lives.

Nintendo has revealed that their latest console, the Nintendo Switch, has sold a whopping 17 million units. Kimishima had been looking for some time to retire and "pass the baton" on to a younger generation.

Stepping up to take on the role following the sad passing of Iwata in 2015, Kimishima oversaw a massive resurgence in his two and a half years as president of Nintendo. Koizumi-san was one of the key minds behind the Nintendo Switch, while Tezuka-san was in charge of modernizing the company's flagship Super Mario franchise.

"We will develop the company to its fullest", Furukawa assured. He grew up playing with the Family Computer, or Famicom, which was sold in Japan during the 1980s. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has also sold over 1.3 million units, an impressive feat for a niche JRPG. "I will balance Nintendo's traditions: originality and flexibility". 46 may not seem shockingly young to Westerners, but in the East that is considered young for such an important role.

Florida Police Use Dead Man's Finger to Try Unlocking His Phone
Legal experts maintain that a warrant wouldn't be needed to unlock a person's device after their death. Whether the finger of a dead person could unlock a smartphone is debatable.

The Nintendo Switch is much more successful than Nintendo expected. He'll be formally appointed in June. Furukawa is known as a very intelligent person who is even able to speak fluent English. "He may be the flawless person to fill the communication gap that exists between Nintendo and investors". As for the company's Labo cardboard peripherals, there is no sales information since they were launched only recently.

Games for Switch are still popular despite slower sales.

Nintendo also released earnings results on Thursday. To put this number in perspective, the company took home $270 million in the year prior.

The outlook compared with the 308.72 billion yen average of 21 analyst estimates in a survey by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Moving on to the Nintendo 3DS, sales for Nintendo's portable have bee good too, reaching 6.40 million for the fiscal year. Nintendo expects to sell 100 million in the coming year. Revenue increased to $9.66 billion, which is 116 percent higher.
