20 killed, 40 injured in air raid on Yemen wedding: Medics

Most of the dead were women and children who were gathering in a tent set up for the wedding party in Hajjah's Bani Qays district on Sunday, a medical official said.

The groom is said by Hospital chief Mohammed al-Sawmali and 4-5 of these injured were attracted to the regional al-Jomhouri healthcare facility.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on Twitter that a hospital it supports in Hajjah received at least 40 patients wounded in the airstrikes. At least 17 women and children were killed in the strikes, according to official sources.

Footage from the scene of the air strike shows scattered body parts and a young boy in a green shirt hugging a man's lifeless body, screaming and crying.

On September 28, 2015, a coalition air strike killed 131 attending a wedding in the Red Sea village of al-Wahjiah, near the ancient port of al-Mokha.

Saudi-led coalition airstrikes are behind 61% of all civilian casualties in Yemen's war, according to the United Nations human rights office.

Fighting intensified in March 2015, when the Houthis advanced on the government's temporary capital of Aden, prompting Saudi Arabia and its Sunni allies to start an air campaign against the Shiite group.

Almost 10,000 people have since been killed in the conflict, which has sparked what the United Nations has called the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

The Saudi-led coalition blames the Houthi rebels, saying they are using civilians as human shields and hiding among the civilian population.

The spokesman also lashed out at some Western countries for their "irresponsible" supply of weapons to Saudi Arabia.
