GOP congressmen want Comey's memos on Trump

It's the first sit-down, televised interview Comey has given since he was sacked by President Donald Trump previous year and the first in a series of interviews he will sit for in the coming weeks.

Trump fired Comey last May, setting off a firestorm, as the Federal Bureau of Investigation was probing possible connections between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia's meddling in the American elections.

"Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe", Trump raged Sunday morning on Twitter.

The phrase is associated with President George W. Bush, who used it in 2003 during the Iraq war but which dogged him for the rest of his presidency. "I'm about to meet with a person who doesn't know me, who has just been elected the president of the United States. and I'm about to talk to him about allegations that he was involved with prostitutes in Moscow and that the Russians taped it and have leverage over him".

In the interview excerpt released Saturday, Comey said he did not remember "consciously thinking" about the election results as he chose to disclose that the FBI had reopened its investigation into candidate Clinton's email use.

Comey kept contemporaneous memos of his interactions with the president and told the Senate Intelligence Committee last June that he did so because he thought Trump might lie about them.

Scalise wouldn't confirm the reports about Ryan's pending announcement he would not seek re-election, calling him a "good friend". Neither Scalise nor McCarthy has officially announced a bid for the Speakership, but legislators expect both to do so eventually.

Comey, who was sacked by Trump previous year, told ABC that a desire to ensure that Clinton's victory was seen as legitimate played a role in his decision to announce the bureau would reopen the investigation, made 11 days before the election.

"I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty", tweeted Trump, who purportedly asked Comey for a loyalty pledge.

In the book, Mr Comey compares Mr Trump to a mafia don and calls his leadership of the country "ego driven and about personal loyalty".

Ryan, asked whether Comey was a person of ethics, " "So far since I understand" but included he did not understand him well. But, he acknowledged, "I was operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump, and so I'm sure that it was a factor".

Mr. Trump balked at that description, writing on Twitter, "Was she promised a Supreme Court seat, or AG, in order to lay off Hillary".

Not stopping there, Donald Trump continued his attack on James Comey. Lynch accepted Comey's recommendation not to charge Clinton.
