Senate Majority Leader Mike Kehoe calls for Greitens resignation

Senate Majority Leader Mike Kehoe calls for Greitens resignation

Attorney General Josh Hawley, also a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Claire McCaskill, said the report "contains shocking, substantial and corroborated evidence of wrongdoing" by the 44-year-old governor. Walsh says she doesn't think any legislation signed by Greitens should be law.

A special legislative committee investigating Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens says it will release its report Wednesday.

But Greitens is vowing to remain in office and prove his innocence against mounting allegations that he denounced as "lies and falsehoods". GOP legislative leaders announced that the panel will continue its investigation and decide whether to file articles of impeachment.

The Republican leaders of the legislature have strongly condemned the behavior described in the report but so far stopped short of calling for Greitens to step down.

The governor, a married father of two, spoke shortly before a special bipartisan committee of the Republican-controlled state House of Representatives released its 24-page document.

She told the committee that Greitens slapped and hit her, and that she did not consent to the encounter in which she said she heard the sound of a cellphone taking a picture of her mostly nude body.

"For the good of the state, Eric Greitens must immediately resign". He says it's "a political witch hunt". But a Republican majority authorized the House committee's investigation, which was also led by a Republican. The panel next is to recommend whether lawmakers should begin impeachment proceedings to try to remove the Republican governor from office.

According to the report, the woman testified that she met Greitens in 2013 as a customer of her hair salon. "He does it and he's like, 'You're not going to be a bad girl, are you?'"

A week later he invited her to his home while his wife was out of town, saying they could not talk in public because he was running for office.

While Greitens has described the extramarital relations as "consensual", the woman said it included unwanted and potentially coerced sexual acts that she felt afraid to say no to and physical violence, in addition to the threat of photographic blackmail. He then asked if she had exercised and had her change into a white T-shirt with a slit on the top and pajama trousers.

"I am disgusted, disheartened, and I believe Governor Greitens is unfit to lead our state", she said in a written statement.

"The testimony outlined in the report is beyond disturbing", Richardson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The woman said to the committee, "T$3 hen I hear him kind of, like, step back - take a step back and I hear - I can hear like a, like a cell phone - like a picture, and I can see a flash through the blindfold". "They are going to be everywhere, and then everyone will know what a little whore you are".

After telling Greitens, "I don't want this", the woman testified that Greitens unbound her hands. "And I just laid there crying while he was just like...you're fine, you're fine".

Greitens began kissing her neck and chest and ripped her shirt open to expose her, and pulled down her trousers. She said he put his penis near her face and she gave him oral sex. "Coerced, maybe. I felt as though that would allow me to leave". I believe that there is one person who could get this soldier to stand down.

"Our committee remains dedicated to its task and will not be deterred by Eric Greitens' baseless attacks on our witnesses, our integrity or our common sense", Mitten said. Prosecutors in his criminal case previously acknowledged that they don't have the photo, though they could be trying to obtain it. His lawyers have sought to sow doubt about the woman's account as well as the case brought by St. Louis circuit attorney, Kimberly Gardner.

"There is a process, and I trust it", Stacy said.

"Witness 1 testified that Greitens began kissing down her stomach again, and 'as soon as he got, like, low on me, I just started freaking out and I started ripping down my hands".

"Witness 1 testified that she did not believe the slap was meant to physically hurt her", the report states.

In January, he admitted tohaving an affair but denied any blackmail attempts.

In his own Wednesday statement, the governor insisted that the relationship was "entirely consensual" and denied allegations of violence and sexual assault. "He clearly used his power to manipulate her", Beatty said.

Greitens labeled the report as "tabloid trash, gossip", in a live statement one hour before the committee released its findings. At that point, she says, she was crying.

Greitens, who has resisted calls to step down amid the scandal as he awaits trial next month, declined to participate or testify for the committee's report. He is also under investigation for possible improper use of a nonprofit donor list during his gubernatorial campaign.
